Gordon Vanguard (guitar/vocals/beats/keys) is the creator of the ambitious grunge-pop band, LICKER. Assisted by Kyle Benson (Guitar/keys) and Phil Nolan (Drums, Percussion), this trio incorporates messy synths and dirty cerebral drums with strong grunge and emo roots that make it’s audience want to dance as well as stare at the floor. LICKER effectively captures the emotional strength of Death Cab for Cutie and Radiohead, the manic prowess of Sonic Youth and Bloc Party, as well as the pop sensibilities of Phoenix and Kings of Leon. This formula, mixed with their energetic, performance-oriented live shows, has aroused listeners of both Minneapolis and Chicago since 2008. LICKER released their six-song OJ Dingo EP, which was produced and mastered at Droptone Studio (MN) (Parallax, Maria Isa, Esera) in 2010 to a rave review. LICKER just finished their first full-length self-titled album in late 2011, which was self-produced as well as mastered by Chicago legend Doug McBride at Gravity Studios (Fall Out Boy, The Promise Ring). They are also working on playing local Chicago venues, and vigorously promoting their website, www.listentolicker.com, which offers over 50 free downloadable songs.
